The stage is set for the first ever GM IM Invitational event to kick off a new era for our local Malaysian chess scene. Sponsored by Chess Hub Sdn Bhd, this will be the inaugural event that will continue for the next four years which will end in 2029 in a concerted effort between MCF and Chess Hub to elevate the standard of Malaysian players to a new height. In essence, the main concept of the GM IM Invitational event is to create opportunities for local Malaysians to earn norms and titles without having to set foot to play in prestigious and high quality events abroad - sacrificing valuable resources and time.
MCF is also pleased to inform that Malaysia's top player - IM Yeoh Li Tian, and upcoming junior player - IM Tan Jun Ying, have both agreed to participate in this first event championship. Unfortunately, due to any earlier commitment, IM Poh Yu Tian is committed to play in the European circuit as such, will miss to play in this event. Nonetheless, we hope that IM Poh Yu Tian will be able to make it in the next series and at the same time, MCF wishes all the best to him on his European journey.
To date, 25 players from 8 countries including Malaysia, have confirmed their participation at the event. This includes 7 Grandmasters - with 1 more GM pending his flight confirmation, and 8 IMs - including our Numero Uno IM Yeoh Li Tian, soon to be IM Tan Jun Ying and the following 6 players:
1. Malaysian Champion - NM Kavin Mohan
2. Malaysian Masters Champion - Uzair Shahar
3. Malaysia's Top 10 - FM Wong Yinn Long
4. Malaysia's Top 10 - Anderson Ang Ern Jie
5. Malaysian Women Champion - WIM Puteri Munajjah Az Zahraa Azhar
6. Malaysian Woman Masters Champion - WFM Tan Li Ting

It is only fitting that the event is held in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers serving as the tournament backdrop. To achieve this, the main sponsor Chess Hub was able to secure Corus Hotel as the tournament designated playing venue and official hotel for all the players playing in the tournament. The playing hall will be located on the ground floor in Kenanga room - a fitting glass room that allows onlookers to view the players and the games from a clear distance. All tables will be fitted with DGT board and CCTV to allow for viewers to view the tournament via online platforms that will be provided by the organizer.
Talks are already in place for another similar series to be held later this year, and Chess Hub and MCF hopes to expand the GM IM Invitational series to once per quarter, and roping in more sponsors to make the events a reality. On the same, Corus Hotel has also indicated its willingness to continue to host the event in the years to come.
MCF wishes all the players taking part - especially to our local hopefuls, and hope that everyone will perform to the best of their ability.
MCF also welcomes all well wishers, spectators, supporters, enthusiasts, players and officials alike to visit the venue and follow the championship as a show of support and strength to our players.
